How to animate front lines on your phone

Moving a war front smoothly is the slowest part of most mapping videos. Here is the manual CapCut method, and the tween-based approach Mapmarch is building.

Why front lines are hard on mobile

A front is a curve that must move a little each frame. In CapCut you either hard-cut between painted frames (jumpy) or mask and keyframe a path (fiddly on a small screen). Either way, a 60-second front advance often takes longer than the script.

A workable manual workflow

  1. Draw the start front and end front on two map frames.
  2. Duplicate intermediate frames and nudge the line 5–10% each time.
  3. Import the sequence at 8–12 fps so the motion reads as continuous.
  4. Add attack arrows as separate overlays with a draw-on effect.

The Mapmarch approach

Draw the front once, set a later keyframe where it has advanced, and let the app tween the curve. Arrows follow a path you draw. Export is Shorts-ready. The product is in development — waitlist members get early access first.
