War map animation maker for Shorts, TikTok and YouTube
Want animated front lines, attack arrows and changing borders without learning After Effects? Here are your options in 2026 and what Mapmarch is building.
What a war map animation needs
- A base map for the right year. Borders in 1914 aren't borders in 1945.
- Territory fills that change colour over time, by country, province or a custom region.
- A front line that moves smoothly between dates, instead of jumping.
- Attack arrows that draw themselves along a curve.
- A date counter, labels and captions, plus a voice-over that stays in sync.
- Exports in 9:16 for Shorts and TikTok and 16:9 for long videos.
Your current options
After Effects + GEOlayers is what many larger history channels use. The results are excellent, but you need a desktop, a paid plugin and time to learn it. Web-based map animators now exist and cover fronts and arrows in a desktop browser. Phone editors like CapCut and Alight Motion are free, but you animate every frame by hand.
What Mapmarch does differently
We're building for the creator who edits on a phone. Every control is sized for a thumb, and you draw a front once and nudge it forward. Templates cover the formats that already work on Shorts, such as "what if X invaded Y" and "every year of an empire". Mapmarch is in development, and the waitlist is free.
Make it on your phone instead
Mapmarch is a phone-first map animation maker for war, history and geography videos. Join the free waitlist for early access.
